Mooring and Docking Operations

Secure mooring and docking are critical to the safety and stability of vessels while in port.

Our Mooring and Docking Operations team specializes in securing vessels of all sizes, ensuring they remain stable during loading, unloading, and refueling processes.Our experienced mooring teams work around the clock to provide seamless, secure berthing assistance.Using specialized equipment and proven techniques, we efficiently secure vessels against tides, currents, and weather conditions.

We coordinate closely with ship crews, port authorities, and tugboat operators to guarantee precise docking and undocking procedures, minimizing risks and operational downtime.Whether handling cargo ships, tankers, or passenger vessels, we prioritize safety, efficiency, and reliability to facilitate smooth port operations.

Tug & Towing

Maneuvering large vessels in confined port waters requires specialized equipment and highly skilled crews.

Our Tug and Towage Services provide powerful tugboat and expert operators to assist with berthing, unberthing, and repositioning vessels safely and efficiently.

Our tugboat is equipped to handle vessels of all sizes, including massive container ships, oil tankers, and cruise liners.Skilled tug operators work in coordination with pilots and vessel crews to assist with precise navigation, reducing the risk of collisions or grounding.

Tug assistance is available for emergency situations, including vessel breakdowns, strong currents, or adverse weather conditions that require additional navigational support.

By ensuring safe maneuverability within port limits, our towage services help maximize efficiency, minimize delays, and maintain smooth maritime operations.

HARBOUR APPROACHES
Depth in approach bay: 65 meters
Width in turning basin: 45 meters
Harbour entrance is approximately 1 nautical mile wide.
The bottom is sand and gravel
Currents in the harbour approaches vary from 1 knot to 3 knots.

PORT  DIMENSIONS

Cruise Ship Terminal

Cruise ships berth on either side of a piled concrete jetty, 162 meters long and 20 meters wide, beyond which there are two mooring dolphins and a breasting dolphin.The larger of the two berths - the North Berth - is designed for vessels up to 100,000 grt and 260 meters in length so that, in practice, Port Kingstown can accommodate the largest cruise ships.The North Berth has a depth alongside from 28.0 meters to a dredged 11.35 meters while the South berth, suitable for vessels of up to 45,000 grt and 100 meters in length, has a depth from 28.0 meters to a dredged 7.1 meters.

TUG  SERVICES
Compulsory for vessels of 1000 gross tons and above.
Two (2) tugboats are available;
Tug “Capt Bim” – 2150 HP
Tug “Stephania” – 2000 HP
Naval vessels and cruise ships are exempted (only upon request)

MOORING
Mooring services are provided by SVGMPOC except at petroleum tanker
moorings and at the grain berth.

FRESH WATER
Fresh water is available at the Kingstown Cruise Ship Berth and at the Kingstown Cargo Pier.
