Question 1

Overview
Accreditation is a system or process for providing public confidence and a tool for improvement used by
educational institutions. It promises a basic level of quality in an educational institution through a process that examines a school's faculty, course content, recruiting practices, admissions procedures, and
more.
The purpose of accreditation is: to ensure quality education programs through the use of standards
and rigorous evaluation criteria; to stimulate institutions toward higher levels of quality and efficiency;
to provide a system for public trust and accountability.

Compliance and Certification

Compliance
Compliance is undertaking activities or establishing practices or policies in accordance with the requirements or expectations of an external authority.
Certification
Certification is the process of formally acknowledging achievement or compliance: it can be used to signify the achievement of an individual, such as a student, or of an institution.

Accreditation vs Certification

Certification represents a written assurance by a third party of the conformity of a product, process or service to specified requirements. Accreditation, on the other hand, is the formal recognition by an authoritative body of the competence to work to specified standards.
Certification verifies that an individual or organization has achieved a certain level of compliance within a particular area. It indicates they have completed the necessary steps to receive a specific designation.

Other Key Questions

Accreditation Standards
The level of requirement and conditions that must be met by institutions or programmes to be accredited or certified by a quality assurance or accrediting agency. These conditions involve expectations about quality, attainment, effectiveness, financial viability, outcomes, and sustainability.
Registration
Registration is usually done before accreditation. I.e. it is one of the first steps towards accreditation. It certifies that an institution meets or exceeds certain minimum operating standards. The criteria for registration are closely related to those for accreditation.
